Theological understanding and formulation are the lifeblood of a Chrisian’s walk, until they are not. When Biblical truths are twisted by human misunderstanding, false beliefs lead to ungodly actions. Throughout the history of church, the tenets of supersessionism and covenant theology, both based primarily on human reason and analysis superimposed onto Old and New Testament passages, have been the foundation of antisemitism and Jew hatred over the centuries. Many church “fathers,” leaders, writers, and theologians have promoted the false narrative that Jews have no future role in God’s sovereign plan for His chosen people, and that their eternal homeland, Israel, is theologically and geographically irrelevant.
Nazi theologians also sought to sanitize the Scriptures of references to Israel and the irrefutable Jewishness of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Indeed, the abysmal failure of individual Catholics, Lutherans, and Protestants during the Holocaust is the clearest evidence of the poisonous fruits of this unbiblical approach to the Scriptures. Millions of Christians stood by in unrepentant silence as their Jewish, Slavic, Sinti, and Roma neighbors were rounded up and systematically murdered in pits, camps, and gas chambers.
Gentile Christians participated in the heinous, unrelenting mass murder of Jews, many of whom were their own neighbors. While this may shock us today, history indicates that the Holocaust was partially the outcome of human-created theological systems that promoted hate over love, darkness over light, and lies over truth. These mass murderers were ordinary citizens just like us, many with children of their own, who willingly participated in genocide and crimes against Jewish humanity, often with a “clean conscience.”
Those Christian Gentiles who did not directly participate in brutality and mass murder frequently looked away, engaging in complicit silence. Others informed on their Jewish neighbors, extorted money from Jews, misappropriated Jewish property, and quietly aided and abetted local authorities.
Both subtly and overtly, professing Christian scholars in many denominations have willfully and waywardly replaced the authoritative teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Scriptures, substituting instead historical and textual revisionism and linguistic deconstructionism, as well as neo-gnostic-like intellectualism. They have projected their own systematic musings and muddled ideas onto the pure, inerrant, Spirit-breathed clarity of the Word of God.
The clearest passages in the New Testament are found in Romans 9, 10, & 11. Romans 9 is about Isarel’s election. Romans 10 is about Israel’s rejection. Romans 11 is about Israel’s final reception and restoration by the God of Jeshurun. Israel’s rejection is clearly partial and temporary, lasting until numerous Old Testament Scriptures are fulfilled by our Lord’s return on the final day, the last day, that day, the Appointed Day, the End of Days, Judgment Day. These chapters in Romans are exceedingly clear and can only be altered by those who have either been blinded in their understanding, or who are themselves unregenerated, virgins without oil in their lamps.
I am praying for God’s true church in this world, the Bride of Jesus Christ, by praying against theological wolves in sheep’s clothing who have entered the church and cunningly planted doctrinal tares among the wheat of God’s regenerated, Holy Spirit directed people.
It is very late in human history. Lawlessness and cold-hearted selfishness are exploding around the world. Countries and economies are failing. People are murdering one another in the streets. Parents are murdering their children and children are murdering their parents. Hate filled extremism, often by Muslim Jihadists, as well as antisemitic groups on the left and right of the political spectrum, is destroying peoples and nations. Jews and Christians are increasingly hated and persecuted around the world.
The level of hatred we are seeing against our Jewish neighbors in the United States since October 7, 2023 has accelerated at a shocking rate. Holocaust survivors report that they are observing ominous parallels between the incremental rise of Nazi hatred against Jews in the 1930s and recent events in the United States.
Among the turmoil and suffering, however, the Holy Spirit is sifting the wheat from the chaff, separating the sheep from the goats, and pulling in the dragnets to prepare for His Judgment that is soon at hand. For believers in Jesus Christ, this is a time of great hope. The Bible predicted these events long ago. We are seeing exactly what the Scriptures foretold. For unbelievers, however, it is a time of fear and uncertainty. The Gospel will go out to the entire world, and the end will come. No human solutions exist for the spiritual crisis we are entering.
May the Lord tear out the Gentile branches grafted into the Tree of Israel who are themselves unrepentant, deceived, and dead, in His perfect time. May the living branches grafted in grow closer to the Tree that gives life, and from whom the Messiah & Savior Himself arose as a “tender shoot.” The lamp stands of many churches will be extinguished in the coming trials that are the birth pangs before the Lord’s return. Those who will not be transformed by the renewing of their minds will be blinded by darkness and hate.
May the Lord Jesus Christ return soon to avenge the blood of the innocent, children, the saints, the prophets, and the righteous from every age, tribe, tongue, people, and nation. One day soon, believing Jews and Gentiles will see the earth covered with His Righteousness, as one people, living stones in His living temple, the New Zion, as His chosen and elected sons and daughters forever. Maranatha, come quickly, Lord Jesus Christ!
